Frequently Asked Questions

Amikno is a food-testing tool designed to help consumers identify the presence of meat and animal by-products in their food and beverage. It is user-friendly, providing results within seconds, and empowers individuals to make informed choices about what they eat.

Amikno detects all animal products and by-products. The test strips will react in the presence of animal protein, animal by-products, animal grease, gelatin, and rennet.

How does Amino work?

The test involves placing an Amikno strip against the surface of your food, beverage, or product - (lotion, body wash, shampoo). The swab contains a piece of plant-based litmus paper that changes color to indicate the presence of dairy, meat or animal by-products.

This process is similar to a ph test, however the chemical reaction and the process are quite different. This test identifies the presence of organic molecules that are only found in animals. If there is even trace amounts of cross-contamination, our test will quickly identify and alert you of it’s presence within 30 seconds.

-Yellow test result- no animal products have been detected.

+Green or +Blue test result- animal products have been detected.

How do I use Amikno?

To utilize Amikno's Detection Test Strip, simply follow these three easy steps:

  1. Immerse or swipe the test strip into or over the food or beverage for a duration of 3 seconds.

  2. After a wait time of 30 seconds, compare the results on the test strip with the provided color identification scale.

  3. Based on the results, either proceed with confidence to enjoy your meal or dispose of it if the results are not as desired.

Additional tips for usage:

Getting a good swipe is important. You won’t get a good sample of a burger if you only test the bun. We suggest cutting open a portion of the food to swipe from the outside through the middle. More vivid reactions occur with moist or juicy foods.

  • Don’t test while the food is scolding hot, let it cool down first.

  • Dry foods may be tested by holding the test pad against the food longer or by soaking dry foods in water and then dipping the test strip into the solution.

  • If sauce sticks to the test pad, wait for the test to react, then wipe off the sauce to see if there is a color change.

  • Some food may take longer than 30 seconds for the color to change - like a candy bar.

What do the results tell us?

-Yellow test pads indicate that the food, beverage, or product you tested does not contain animal meat or by-products.

When the test pad changes color to +Green or +Blue the product you just tested contains some sort of meat or animal by-product.

A +Green or +Blue color change can also indicate that cross-contamination of meat or animal by-products has occurred.

Please note that our product is designed to detect all animal products, but it does not test for the alpha-gal sugar molecule and is not a medical device.

My test changed an unexpected color, now what?

Research brand names and what ingredients they use in their products. You will be surprised at what is available online. Are they vegan certified?

  • Go to the USDA website and research their guidelines of what is acceptable to include in certain foods and beverages. ( X amount allowed is up to __%)

  • Look up definitions of the ingredients you are not familiar with.
